Climate projection data is combined with global coffee variety performance results to offer insights on which varieties are well-adapted to your conditions, now and in the future. Select your location and access results from trial sites with similar climates. Discover which varieties stand out and how your local variety compares. Ready to grow the future?

  1. Select a location: Easily choose your location of interest.
  2. Access localized climate data: Explore detailed climate information, including current climate, future projections, and suitability analysis for coffee cultivation at your location.
  3. Identify climate analogs: Discover variety trial sites with comparable climates to your selected location and learn from the performance of varieties in those analogs’ climatic conditions.
  4. Analyze variety performance: Review how 26 of the 31 different Arabica coffee varieties, evaluated in the world’s largest variety trial, the International Multi-Location Variety Trial (IMLVT) have performed under similar climatic conditions. This integration of climate modeling with variety performance data supports informed variety selection for future proof coffee farming.
  5. Take a climate-smart farming decision: Make your field renovation plan. See also the Next Steps section for more guidance on the topic.

Climate change is altering the growing conditions that farmers rely on to cultivate their coffee. The coffee variety planted is a key factor in climate resilience. The CafeClima tool helps you decide which varieties will be best suited to your area in a climate-changed future.

The platform integrates data from two different sources: the International Multi-Location Variety Trial (IMLVT), along with climate projection data from ACLIMATAR, a climate adaptation support platform developed by the Alliance of Bioversity and CIAT. This allows for the identification of varieties that have shown good performance under climate conditions similar to both the current and future conditions of your region.

CafeClima integrates data from the world's largest dataset on coffee variety performance, results from the International Multi-Location Variety Trial (IMLVT). This project, led by World Coffee Research (WCR), brings together 31 of the world's best coffee varieties and tests them in real experimental plots in more than a dozen countries and under a wide diversity of climatic conditions. Its findings help farmers make better planting and renovation decisions, increase their resilience, and ultimately ensure a more sustainable and high-quality global coffee supply. In the platform, 26 of these coffee varieties are available for comparison across sites.
